NP Overview

Bachelor of Science (Nursing Practice)
Part-Time course

This Bachelor of Science (Nursing Practice) [BSc (NP)] programme has been introduced to fulfil aspirations of recent nursing diploma graduates in the workforce who wish to pursue a part-time degree at National University of Singapore (NUS). Socio-economic realities require a part-time approach to education that allows learners to maintain employment. This programme will provide an avenue and greater flexibility for capable polytechnic nursing graduates to pursue a degree at NUS while keeping the healthcare workforce productive during the course of study.

This is a part-time degree which builds on the foundation that polytechnic nursing graduates have established through their three years of diploma studies at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) or Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). The normal and maximum candidatures for Bachelor of Science (Nursing Practice) are respectively three (3) and four (4) years.

The programme will cover the core competencies required by the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) as well as offer broad-based modules that will prepare registered nurses (RNs) to be critical thinkers and self-directed reflective practitioners who can apply theoretical learning at their respective work-based practice areas.

Aims of the Programme

The BSc (NP) aims to allow learners who are practising RNs in the workforce be able to be able to connect the learning with their work roles, develop their capabilities and improve patient outcomes. At the same time, it aims to promote and deepen RNs’ knowledge and skills while pursuing part-time study. The programme will support practising RNs in enhancing their knowledge, skills and attitudes to providing high quality and competent care; as well as enhance their analytical and reflective skills to support individual professional practice development
