More than 200 guests and alumni attended the inauguration ceremony of the NUS Nursing Alumni at the Shawn Foundation Alumni House on 20 October 2011. Distinguished guests officiating at the ceremony included Chief Nursing Officer of Ministry of Health Dr. Pauline Tan; Director of NUS Office of Alumni Relations Associate Professor Lim Meng Kin; and President of the Alumni Association Professor Arthur Lim. The ALCNS was founded in 2005 through the generous donation from the Lee Foundation to help address the growing demand for graduate nurses in Singapore and the region. The ALCNS now offers Bachelor of Science (Nursing), Bachelor of Science (Nursing) (Honours), Master of Nursing, Master of Science (Nursing) and Doctor of Philosophy programmes. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Head of ALCNS Prof Sally Chan said the formation of the NUS Nursing Alumni is timely. The alumni are vital part of the Department. She believes that the nursing alumni will give generously of their time and expertise to support important causes in the ALCNS and NUS. It is important to strengthen the nursing alumni pillar – so that the ALCNS can become the great department that we all aspire it to be.
